Prof. Xiaoming Fu elected to Academia Europaea

Professor Xiaoming Fu has been elected as a member of the Academia Europaea – a non-governmental body

with the objective of "the advancement and propagation of excellence in scholarship in the humanities, law, the economic, social, and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and all branches of natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world for the public benefit and for the advancement of the education of the public of all ages in the aforesaid subjects in Europe.".

As head of Computer Networks group at the Institute of Computer Science and founding director of Sino-German Institute of Social Computing at the University of Göttingen, Professor Fu leads several initiatives in the area of future Internet, mobile computing, and big data analysis.

He became a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2017 and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer in 2014.

The Academia advises governments and European institutions on matters affecting science and academic life. It also wants to promote a better understanding among the public of scientific and scholarly issues that affect society and the quality of life in general.

The organisation now has around 3800 members, including 73 Nobel Laureates. They are eminent scientists and scholars from all disciplines. Membership is granted to individuals who have been nominated, scrutinised and elected by their peers.

Professor Dr. Xiaoming Fu ist zum Mitglied der Academia Europaea gewählt worden. Die Academia ist eine regierungsunabhängige Organisation, die sich für die Förderung der Bildung und der Wissenschaft in Europa einsetzt.

Als Leiter für Forschungsgruppe Rechnernetze am Institut für Informatik und der Direktor und Gründer des Sino-German Institute of Social Computing an der Universität Göttingen leitet Prof. Fu mehrere Initiativen im Bereich zukünftiges Internet, Mobile Computing und Big Data Analyse.

Professor Fu ist ein Fellow der Institute of Engineering Technology (2017) und ein IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (2014-2015).

Die Academia berät Regierungen und europäische Institutionen zu Themen, die wissenschaftliche und akademische Bereiche betreffen. Sie erstrebt ein breiteres Verständnis der Themen aus Bildung und Wissenschaft, die unsere Gesellschaft und ihre Lebensqualität beeinflussen.

Zu den derzeit ca. 3800 Mitgliedern der Academia gehören international führende Wissenschaftler aller Fachrichtungen. Unter ihnen sind 73 Nobellaureaten. Die Mitglieder werden von ihren Peers nominiert, bewertet und anschließend gewählt.
